APOKON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Apokon Elementary School is committed to provide quality basic education through the concerted effort of the readers, parents and other stakeholders. Our mission is for every student to reach their full potential through rigorous teaching and learning in a child-friendly school.
The school is one of the complete elementary schools of Tagum City Division, Region XI. It is located along the highway connecting Davao del Norte-Davao Oriental National Highway, passing Barangay Apokon, Tagum City. This is located approximately 3 kilometers from the heart of the city going east bound to Mati, Davao Oriental. It was established in June 1946 with simple beginning with multi grades classes with forty (40) pupils in Grade I and II, and twenty-six (26) pupils in grade III and IV as the first enrollees.
This is the only public elementary school which is situated in Barangay Apokon. It caters educational services to its locality with an immensely diverse culture including Bisaya, Mandaya, Mansaka and Muslim students.
Speaking of belief and religion, almost 64.8 % of the student populace belongs to Roman Catholic, 14. 2% are Muslims, 5 % is Iglesia ni Kristo and 16 % comprise Christians of different denominations. Barangay Apokon is rich with diverse ethnic group, the home of Mansaka Tribe where its roots originated named the barangay “Apok” meaning mud the original occupants comprising 38% of the population, 12 % belongs to Mandaya, 10% for other tribes while the remaining 40% distributed to migrants coming from the different part of the country.
Apokon Elementary School is one of the five public elementary school in Tagum Central Cluster. It is three (3) kilometers away from the heart of the city of Tagum. It has a total lot area of 8,650 sq meters. It is situated at a strategic location because as its nearby existing public and private high schools and college whereby majority of its graduates pursue secondary education and higher learning namely: University of Southeastern Philippines located in the eastern part, St. Lorenzo Ruiz Academy in the western part, Tagum National Trade School in the Southeastern part and North Davao College Foundation Inc.
In terms of school performance, Apokon Elementary School does not lay behind from other school of Tagum City Division. In fact, some of its pupils have garnered several awards in the local, school, division, regional and national competition both academic and non-academic aspects. This truly indicates that the school has nurtured its pupils a well-rounded individual.
